School Admissions

Our admissions policy is very simple.

When the school has more applications than there are places available, places will be offered according to the admissions criteria in the following order of priority:-

1. Children in the care of, or provided with accommodation by, a Local Authority (under Section 22 of the Children Act 1989),
2. Children living in the priority area who have a sibling at Middlemarch at the time of admission,
3. Children living in the priority area who have a sibling at the partner infant school(s) at the time of admission,
4. Other children living in the priority area who attend the partner infant school)s) immediately prior to transfer,
5. Other children living in the priority area,
6. Children living outside the priority area who have a sibling at the school at the time of admission,
7. Children living outside the priority area who attend the partner infant school(s) immediately prior to transfer,
8. Children living outside the priority area who have a sibling at the partner infant school(s) at the time of admission,
9. Other children living outside the priority area.

Within each criterion, priority is given in order of distance between the child's home and school (shortest distance = highest priority). Distance will be calculated by the straight line measurement from the centre of the applicant's home address (as set by Ordnance Survey) to the centre point ('centroid') of the preferred school (all measurements are subject to prepositional accuracy changes). This applies equally to those living inside and outside the County boundary.

Partner schools are: Chilvers Coton Community Infant School and Glendale Community Infant School - depending on address (see below).

Middlemarch School has a priority area as follows:
Priority Area: Bermuda Village, including Cornish Cresent, Radley Drive, Woburn Drive, Redwood Croft, Bermuda Road and Tenlons Road. Middlemarch Road, Marner Road, Gilfil Road and Barton Road.
The northern boundary follows Ansley Road (excluded), Arbury Road (excluded), Charnwood Avenue (excluded), Atholl Cresent (excluded), Heath End Road and Croft Road (excluded) to Greenmoor Road. The eastern boundary then follows Greenmoor Road, College Street, Barton Road, Gilfil Road and the railway line to Coventry Road. The eastern boundary then continues to follow Coventry Road (excluded) and the Bedworth By-pass to Sutherland Drive. The southern boundary cuts across the countryside from the Bedworth By-pass opposite Sutherland Drive to Bedworth Lane and then follows Bedworth Lane to the Astley parish boundary. The western boundary follows the Astley parish boundary and Astley Lane to Ansley Road.

Middlemarch School also has shared priority areas with a number of Junior and Primary schools:
Shared with Queens C of E Academy: College Street and Greenmoor Road as far as the canal and including Cox's Close, Milford Street, Amos Avenue, Chilvers Rise (partial), Featherstone Close, Shepperton Street (partial).
Shared with Croft Junior and Queens C of E Junior: Glendale Estate, bounded in the north by Croft Road, to the east by Greenmoor Road and to the south by Heath End Road.
Shared with Stockingford Academy School: Bounded to the north by Ansley Road/ Arbury Road; Bounded to the south by Charnwood Avenue and Atholl Crescent including Seeswood Close, Charnwood Avenue, Radnor Drive, Kielder Drive, Rossendale Way, Forest Way and Atholl Crescent.
Shared with St Paul’s Primary C of E School: Ansley Road/ Arbury Road bounded by Astley Lane to the west.
Shared with Wembrook Primary School: Bounded to the west by the Canal and Coventry Road; bounded to the north by Avenue Road, to include Avenue Road; bounded to the east by Wem Brook; and bounded to the south by Donnithorne Avenue.
Shared with All Saints Primary School: Bounded to the east by Coventry Canal; to the north to include Knebley Crescent and Coventry Road; to the south to include Dorlecote Road, Sudeley Road, Poyser Road, Sorrel Road and Dorlecote Place; and to the east to include Coventry Road up to the railway line adjacent St George’s Way.

Partner Schools are Chilvers Coton Community Infant School and Glendale Community Infant School – depending on address.

Note 1: If a child has a statement of Special Educational Needs naming Middlemarch School, the School Governors recognise their duty to admit the child provided they can meet the child's needs.

The above criteria relate to admissions on the first day of the Autumn Term each year. Admissions at other times will be considered following written/formal application to the Governing Body.

All admissions are determined by the School Governing Body.
